Alice was dreaming in the story but at the time LSD was not invented. Although the author could have been under other influences such as shrooms and angel trumpets. Just as much of a high I guess. I don't know how anyone could write such a creative and inventive story under the influence of drugs. Then again there are a number of drug references in the story...The Caterpillar is smoking a Hookah and the Crazed Spazoided White Rabbit is hopped up on some kind of stimulant....
White Rabbit is another name for cocaine...
